Our church began in 1972 as an offshoot of Calvary Gospel Church in New York Mills, NY. People met in the living room of an Oneida home on Wednesday evenings. Within a few months the little band of believers grew and rented a second floor area on Madison Street. In March 1973 a young couple who had graduated from Elim Bible Institute, Al and Karren Hamm, came to serve as first pastors. They started holding Sunday morning services and the first offering netted $22.00. The church was named Calvary Temple with an official roster of 13 members.
In July 1973 these believers stepped out in faith and purchased an empty church building in Durhamville. From its early days, the church has emphasized and supported missions outreach, including personal involvement with foreign missions. When attendance grew too large for the Durhamville building, Sunday services moved to the Kallet Civic Center. In 1984 ground breaking occurred on the present site for a new building. The education wing was completed in 1990. As the church continued to grow and interact with the local community as well as the world, members voted to change its name to New Hope Christian Community Church.
New Hope Christian Community Church is formally affiliated with Elim Fellowship, a fellowship of churches and Christian workers ministering in the power of the Spirit worldwide. Elim was born in the Pentecostal movement of a century ago and embraced the Charismatic movement that began in the late 1960s. Our pastor is ordained by Elim.
